[Award] Gyeonggi Library Named Finalist in IDEA 2026

Awards 100 Aug. 27, 2026

Gyeonggi Library has been named a Finalist in the Environment category of IDEA(International Design Excellence Awards)2026, one of the world’s most prestigious design awards, alongside the Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award.

Gyeonggi Library is the largest public library in South Korea, situated within the Gyeonggi Convergence Town. It reinterprets the traditional, floor-separated library typology into a vertically integrated "Continuous Knowledge Platform."

The architectural concept is rooted in the "Flow and Circulation of Knowledge," featuring a spiral continuous space centered around a vertical atrium called the "Well of Wisdom." This structure seamlessly connects reading, archives, learning, and community programs into a single, unified spatial experience. As visitors move through the building, they naturally explore knowledge in a process described as a "Promenade of Knowledge," forming a fluid spatial sequence. This innovative spatial structure expands the library from book storage into a vibrant civic lounge where research, exhibitions, and social activities interlace.
Gyeonggi Library presents a new model for public libraries where exploration and interaction thrive through its spatial continuum and integrated environmental strategies.
