Western Dome is located around a lake park that approaches into Ilsan New Town through Janghang IC. It was one of the central areas in Ilsan that was left undeveloped for a long time since the New Town was formed. The building is connected to the existing city system by forming double streets for pedestrians in a single complex to extend the dynamics of a central square. It is intended to invigorate the city and provide various experiences within. For example, a street display, themed as “Flower Festival” following Ilsan’s characteristics, and commercial environment are coordinated along with the architectural design aspect. To provide pedestrians with an all-weather, four season shopping mall, a hybrid spatial membrane structure with the strengths of an interior and exterior mall is designed.
