Amorepacific Headquarters, the largest cosmetics company in Korea, is located in Yongsan where Amore Pacific was founded in 1956. The site was surrounded by the former U.S. military base and is being transformed into a business district and Yongsan Park. It was planned as one of the nation’s largest urban development project that will drastically change urban structure of Yongsan. The building shape is abstract and has its own gestures. Focusing on creating a simple and gestural form, the proportions of the buildings were fine-tuned with the courtyard to maximize natural ventilation and sunlight. The courtyard is connected to the surrounding environment through three openings and can overlook beautiful sceneries of city and mountains. Three large openings function as individual roof gardens. These individual openings let people measure the size of the building while letting the surrounding nature permeate every corner of the building.
