A city, which comprises of complex and collective components, includes apartment towns as an important component. Long-term lease apartments in Korea today might have reached the city’s goal of simply supplying citizens with housing needs; however, such apartments had become the subject of social isolation and avoidance due to the negative image associated with absolute poverty and lack of local communities. In sum, the project failed to reflect the diversity of the current generation by merely supplying citizens with standardized housing units. Having started from this critical view, we proposed a new concept of complex daily life spaces containing diverse lifestyles and allowing symbiosis with the city, rather than merely supplying citizens with places to live. Our strategy was not to make the place people would avoid or stay for a while before moving onto another but the real home where residents feel proud and want to live through well-designed local attractions, pedestrian spaces and shared spaces allowing communication among residents.
