Jeju Aero Space Museum is the first aerospace museum in Korea where people can directly see, feel, and experience 50 full-scale airplanes and spaceships donated by the air force. It is a theme space that is connected with the facilities in Mythology and History Park, providing education and experience about aviation and space as well as serving the times of the past (history) and the future (aerospace).
A cross arrangement is applied to consider a visual axis of the site with Mt. Halla and to efficiently utilize a wedge-shaped exterior space, and the entry area is naturally connected to exterior programs leading to the aviation exhibition and space experience hall, and maintenance area. The architectural shape is formed by a design process of ‘Floating, Launching, Taking Off’, based on the concept of a spaceship soaring toward the Galaxy. To overcome the spatial limitations of the existing exhibition display, the external boundary of a large spatial area for airplane exhibition is pulled down to promote a visual connection of interior and exterior space.
