HAEAHN

Hanbit Waterfront in Expo Science Park

  • Location Daejeon, Yooseong-gu
  • Type Culture/Exhibition
  • Site Area 25,759㎡
  • Design / Completion 2018 / 2020
After Expo Memorial Area was used once for 1993 Expo, the plaza had become decrepit and seldom used except for events and festivals. The design project began with a paradoxical theme “Coexistence of occasional vacancy and daily occupancy.” For the plaza to be used to hold occasional events, Haeahn architects created the floor that could contain “vacancy” or traces of old time and filled it with water and light offering an unusual landscape for visitors to experience daily relaxation and experience. The steel column installed on left and right sides of the plaza was designed to offer variable programs, the shade, light or swing, per users’ intention. The music fountain on the ground and Kkeumdori figures installed in the front of Hanbit Tower were designed to make the space livelier and more attractive.
